Whatnot Shipping for Sellers: Rates, Bundling, Labels and the November 4 Change
ChronicCardsLast updated: October 18, 2026
Key Takeaways
- Buyers pay shipping at checkout by default. Since July 31, 2026, USPS Ground Advantage is the default service for US sellers, and 1 to 5 lb packages ship for $7.75 flat.
- First-Class Mail Letter starts at $0.78 for eligible card shipments of 5 or fewer items, 3 oz or less and $20 or less.
- Flat Rate costs $12.99 per shipment through November 1, 2026, and Whatnot says it continues after that at a higher rate not yet on its help pages as of October 18, 2026.
- Ship every order within 2 business days. An order counts as shipped at the drop-off scan, not when you print the label.
- Starting November 4, 2026, weight-based USPS carrier adjustments on Whatnot labels will be charged to your ledger. You get 5 free shipping adjustments per week to fix weights first.

Whatnot shipping works like this: buyers pay the shipping cost at checkout, Whatnot picks the USPS service from your settings and the item's shipping profile, and you print a prepaid Whatnot label and drop the package off within 2 business days. Here is how it works for card breakers and collectibles sellers. Details verified as of October 18, 2026.
How Does Whatnot Shipping Work?
Whatnot describes a seller's shipping setup as three layers: the shipping profile on each listing (its packed weight and, in some cases, dimensions), your default shipping settings in Seller Hub, and the settings for each show, which can override the defaults but cannot be changed after the show starts.
Orders placed outside of shows ignore your Seller Hub settings and use the product's shipping profile plus the most cost-effective eligible service. New to Whatnot? Start with how to sell on Whatnot.
How Much Does Whatnot Shipping Cost?
Whatnot's USPS rates changed on July 31, 2026, when Ground Advantage replaced Priority Mail as the default service. The Ground Advantage rows are Whatnot-negotiated rates for the contiguous US and include the USPS label plus a small operational fee.
| Service | Shipment | Price |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage (default) | Up to 4 oz / up to 8 oz / up to 12 oz / under 1 lb | $4.47 / $4.85 / $5.25 / $6.75 |
| USPS Ground Advantage | 1 to 5 lbs | $7.75 flat |
| USPS Ground Advantage | Over 5 lbs | Varies by weight and zone |
| USPS First-Class Mail Letter (opt in) | Up to 1 oz / 2 oz / 3 oz | $0.78 / $1.09 / $1.39 |
| USPS Flat Rate (opt in) | Over 1 lb, up to 70 lbs, live shows only | $12.99 through November 1, 2026 |
Ground Advantage shipments to Alaska and Hawaii use standard USPS commercial pricing.
Whatnot is temporarily covering part of the Flat Rate cost to hold it at $12.99 through November 1, 2026, and puts the standard commercial rate at more than $30 for a Large Flat Rate Box. It says Flat Rate stays available after November 1 at a higher rate. As of October 18, 2026, we found no published post-November rate on its help pages, so check Seller Hub before pricing a heavy show.
How Do Shipping Profiles and Smart Bundling Work?
A shipping profile tells Whatnot the packed weight of an item, including the mailer and packing material. Whatnot's example: a 12 oz item in 8 oz of packaging is a 20 oz packed weight, so it belongs in the 1 to 2 lb profile.
Smart Bundling automatically groups one buyer's purchases from the same sales channel into shipments based on weight, dimensions and carrier pricing. For Sports Cards and Trading Card Games listed with the 0 to 1 oz profile, each additional card in a bundle adds only a 0.5 oz incremental weight instead of the full profile weight, which keeps bundled shipping costs lower.
You can also bundle or unbundle shipments yourself in Seller Hub on whatnot.com before you generate labels. Whatnot warns that packing orders together without bundling them on the platform first can leave the order stuck at Preparing Package and delay your earnings.
Who Pays for Shipping on Whatnot?
Buyers pay all shipping costs by default. Sellers who have the option can change this per show: the seller pays all domestic shipping, or the buyer pays up to a set maximum and the seller covers the rest. Whatnot's example: with a $7.75 maximum and $20 of shipping, the buyer pays $7.75 and you pay $12.25.
A max shipping cost limits what the buyer pays, not what shipping costs, and these settings do not apply to giveaways or orders placed outside a show. Our Whatnot seller fees post covers the commission side.
How Do Labels, Packaging and Drop-Off Work?
Whatnot's shipping policy requires every order to ship within two business days of the sale, excluding weekends and holidays; its example is a Friday sale dropped off and scanned by the end of day Tuesday. An order counts as shipped once it receives a drop-off scan: a carrier scan, a carrier manifest scan or the Whatnot in-app scanner, which Whatnot recommends. With no evidence of shipment in time, Whatnot may cancel and refund an escalated order and bill it back to you.
Labels are prepaid and print at 4 x 6 or 8.5 x 11 inches. Use a Whatnot-generated label unless you are approved for Bring Your Own Label. Bulk labels, shipping adjustments and bundling need whatnot.com, not the app.
Packaging has to match the label. Use your own packaging for Ground Advantage; Priority Mail or Flat Rate packaging with a Ground Advantage label can bring USPS fees of about $20 per package, charged to you. For cards, Whatnot's packaging guidelines recommend penny sleeves for every card and require a sleeve plus a properly sized toploader for high-value cards, painter's tape on the toploader, team bags for raw cards, and no empty space in the bubble mailer or padded packaging. Sealed wax must ship in a box.
What Changes on November 4, 2026?
A carrier adjustment is the extra charge USPS applies when a package is heavier or larger than its label says or uses the wrong packaging. Whatnot's help page dated October 6, 2026 says that starting November 4, 2026, weight-based carrier adjustments on Whatnot-generated USPS labels will be charged to the seller's ledger for shipments sent on or after that date. Whatnot says it will keep covering dimension and hazmat adjustments for now, and that sellers whose first sale was on or after September 5, 2026 are not in this rollout. Each adjustment can be appealed once within 45 days.
The fix is the free adjustment window. After a sale and before you generate a label, weigh the fully packed shipment and edit the weight in Seller Hub. Sellers get 5 free shipping adjustments per week. Weight changes within the same USPS pricing tier are always free; moving up one tier by 5 lbs or less uses one of the five, while bigger jumps, or going from under 1 lb to over 5 lbs, are always charged.
Shipping Tips for Card Breakers
Whatnot's Card Breaks Policy says every buyer must receive at least one card for each break purchase, so every spot in a card break becomes a shipment or part of one. Two settings matter most.
- First-Class Mail Letter for cheap singles. Whatnot calls it the lowest-cost option for eligible lightweight shipments, including trading cards, and it must be on before the show starts. It applies only to Sports Cards, Trading Card Games and Stickers items sold live, with no custom profile, in shipments of 5 or fewer items, 3 oz or less and $20 or less. The envelope must bend and be no more than a quarter inch thick. Tracking is limited, and standard payouts start processing 10 days after label creation.
- Accurate weights on hit listings. Whatnot suggests separate listings by weight for bundles and mystery pulls, not one catch-all.
We stock BCW card sleeves and BCW 3 x 4 toploaders in our sleeves and toploaders collection. Our Custom One Touch Stickers put your logo over the top edge of a one-touch magnetic holder, 80 per order, so the hits you ship carry your brand, like a custom break mat does on camera.
