The same goes for a desk mat, a card mat or a TCG playmat. They are all cloth on top of a rubber or neoprene base, and they all pick up the same dirt.

How to Clean a Cloth Mouse Pad: Step by Step
This is the hand-wash method SteelSeries publishes for cloth and fabric pads that have no wiring or lighting. It is for a deep clean, i.e. when a wipe is not enough.

For a small spill or everyday grime, you do not need the sink. Logitech's method works on most cloth pads:
- Lightly moisten a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with tap water and gently wipe the pad.
- For a heavier stain, put a small amount of soap on the damp cloth and gently rub the stained area.
- Wipe again with the damp cloth until all traces of soap are gone.
- Let the pad dry on a flat surface.

The makers disagree on soap and on machine washing, so follow the instructions for the pad you own. If you cannot find any, start with a damp cloth, which is the gentlest method, and move up to hand washing with a little mild soap only if you need to. SteelSeries says to machine wash only pads that are made to be machine washable, with cold water, a gentle cycle and no bleach.
Hard and RGB Mouse Pads
Hard pads: SteelSeries says rubber or plastic mousepads can be wiped with wet wipes or a damp cloth. Glass pads wipe clean the same way.
RGB and wired pads: do not submerge them. SteelSeries says to unplug the pad, wipe it with a well-wrung cloth dampened with warm water and a bit of mild dish soap, keep moisture away from the electronics box, wipe off the soap with a clean damp cloth, and let the pad dry flat.
How to Clean a Card Mat or TCG Playmat

Ultra PRO says its own playmats can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with cold water and air dried flat. That instruction is for Ultra PRO mats. For any other mat, hand cleaning is the safe default unless the maker says otherwise. No maker we checked allows the dryer, and Ultra PRO warns that it makes the cloth peel from the rubber.
